Our My Story

It is deeply sobering to recognize how long I have been in the developing world without considering myself a developer.

I was introduced to programming as an elementary student when it was still called BASIC (years before Windows, iOS, Linux, etc.) and later worked professionally with the pre-web consortium versions of concepts such as HTML, CSS, and others. The rules were just being written. By college, I began working with Aldus software like PageMaker and Photoshop before Adobe bought and renovated them.

I was teaching myself website development in the early ’90s and became a full-time website designer before the Y2K panic, designing sites for individuals and major corporations alike just as Flash and RealPlayer were turning heads. And I began learning and implementing WordPress before they had released version 1.0 (there were quite a few 0.xx versions leading up to that historic first “full” edition).

Then I stepped away from the programming world — at least full-time — in the early ’00s, transitioning to audio-visual production as I pursued the vastly different avenues of theology and education. But the itch to be in the digital arena never left. I always managed to incorporate web design and audio-visual production into my ministry and education careers.

My site-building became mostly personal or non-profit until late in 2021. The new climate of virus peddling (both real and hyped) all but destroyed my career as a public educator and my conservative, Christian mindset escalated the need to seek new horizons. Thus, Burnt Bridges Studio was launched.

Yes, it is intended to imply that some past associations have been severed, but it is also an indication that some roads need to be traveled in only one direction. Change is important and at times only truly occurs if the option to remain hitched to routine is removed.

But what is Burnt Bridges Studio? It is a conglomerate of concepts and pursuits. Web and app design, yes. Podcasts and vlogs, yes also. Like an art studio, many art forms may be incorporated within a single studio. This studio, however, will cater to the conservative, and at times Christian, audience. No apologies.
